"Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are you using on your pits?"

Body odor is a perceived unpleasant smell our bodies can give off when bacteria that live on the skin break down sweat into acids - some say it is the smell of bacteria growing on the body, but it really is the result of bacteria breaking down protein into certain acids.

I AM A HUGE BELIEVER IN SWEATING.  Sweating is good!
So, my first advice is to get over the fear of having sweaty pits.  It's all good.  Nobody cares.  They should be happy for you that your body is a normal, functioning body and is getting rid of toxins the right way.  Tell them not to hate, celebrate.

If you believe you have an excessive perspiration problem, then Young Living Petitgrain is for you.

Petitgrain (Citrus sinensis) is mentally refreshing and emotionally balancing when used aromatically. This oil is also beneficial for skin and hair health. Traditionally, petitgrain has been used to support a healthy nervous system—particularly with nervous exhaustion and stress—as well as to improve instances of excessive perspiration and oily skin and hair.

If you use an antiperspirant, throw it away. Use the recipe below instead.

Aluminum is used in antiperspirants to plug sweat ducts but is also know to be estrogenic. Estrogenic compounds have the ability to trigger some of the same effects as the body's own hormone estrogen. One of estrogen's roles in the body is to promote the growth of breast tissue, so an excess might lead to cancerous overgrowth.

(Deodorants do not contain aluminum, but I am still not a fan of deodorants because of other unhealthy ingredients)

Do not take my word for it.  Research some more on your own.

Or just TRUST me when I say that this DIY recipe is amazing, and that you really need to throw away that store bought stuff.  There are a few companies out there with aluminum -free deodorants, but I must be honest with you as someone who has a history of odor-control issues:  they did nothing for me and were expensive..  In the long run, I save lots of money, and it was not much of an adjustment to change how I apply deodorant.  AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS!

Or, if you're not into DIY, then this is my FAVORITE brand of deodorant, and I can add whatever essential oil that I want to it!

This may not be life changing for all of you, but it was for me, so it's worth the time spent on a blog post about it in case there is someone like me who longed, for YEARS, to find a solution to the stink.

So let's DO THIS!

Ingredients:
Baking soda
Arrowroot starch powder (amazon or local health food store)
Coconut oil
Young Living Petitgrain Essential Oil*

*if you do not have an excessive sweating problem, then Young Living Lavender or Young Living Purification are 2 other great essential oils to try

Directions:
Mix equal parts baking soda and arrowroot starch powder.
Melt coconut oil using double boiler method and add just enough of the coconut oil to liquefy the powders.
Add essential oils to your preference.  (If I ended up with a cup's worth of deodorant, I would add 10-20 drops of Young Living Essential Oil.)
Store in a glass container with lid.  (I tried buying empty deodorant containers, but these did not work with the consistency of the recipe.  It's best to just use an open container with a lid)

Now, are you read for this?

How to use:
Dip your fingers in and apply to your pits.

You only need a TINY bit.

No more smelly cat for you!!

Can you guess about how much of each ingredient you used?

Hey! I make such huge batches now because I started selling it because I love it so much. I make a huge bowl of coconut oil, then mix in equal parts of baking soda and arrowroot until it's the right consistency.
I sell 4 ounce jars for $7. Shipping is a bit extra for right now until we get it up on Amazon.
I would be making numbers up in my head, but next time I make a batch, I will try to be more aware and measure!
